Most of the requests I’m getting this season (yes, it’s already started) are for bridesmaid dresses in graduated colors. This can mean several shades in a monochromatic like blue or pink, or each maid running the gamut of just about every color found in the rainbow.

In case you haven’t heard, bridesmaids step-halting down the aisle in matchy-matchy dresses are pretty passe. If you do dress all your maids in one color, try not to do them up as  identical quintuplets unless they all share the same proportions give or take a few inches. Besides, not all your friends are going to sport a natural waist or Sabrina neckline to the best advantage. There’s a way you can tie the look of your bridesmaids together while bringing out the best in each one. Some designers are creating dresses in the same shade with different necklines and waists to mix it up a little. Below is a perfect example.

Keep everyone connected but give clear guidelines about color and the type of silhouette you want. After that chill out and realize you can probably trust your friend’s judgment. Those shoes she likes so much that make her unique probably will look great in satin.

We’ve come a long way baby! Ever wondered what happened to all those not quite ready for prime time bridesmaid frocks from a few years back once the wedding was over? I was in my neighborhood charity shop a couple years ago when I zoned in on the quintessential: shiny triple tiered shocking pink that looked as if all the air had been let out of the ruffles.

This, like countless other once-worn pastels still hang in many a thrift shop or stuffed away in the back of a closet. More resourceful bridesmaids have been known to make pillows and patchwork throws out of them.

All Black

One of the options that you could definitely try out as a wedding dress is an all black option. Opt to not have accents of any other color on the dress. If you want, you could accentuate the dress with rhinestones and self embroidery. If you are opting for a full skirt, then have an underskirt that is column like in design with an over skirt that is made of tulle or lace. This could be a beautiful and elegant option for a wedding gown. Opt for a strapless dress or a dress with thin straps.

Mainly Black

If you want to make your wedding dress slightly more different, then an option that could work for you would be to add a pop of color by using accents in another color. This color could be the color that is predominantly featured in your wedding decor. Use a sash in the color that you want or wear a hair accessory in this color. You could also choose to get a custom designed dress that uses accents of the color on a black base.

Black and White

If you are not comfortable with the idea of wearing something that is so spectacularly bold, then opt for a wedding dress in shades of both white and black. You could have a white dress with black embroidery and sequins on it. You could also have a black wedding dress with a white sash and white accents on the rest of the dress. Another option could be to opt for a white dress that is then overlapped with a black sheer cloth like lace or chiffon, or even tulle.

Ever notice how designers add all these awesome elements to make the back of a wedding gown pop? Face it, no matter how simple your gown is, the back deserves as much if not more attention to detail as the front.

All you have to do is look at your body from all angles to see one of the most dramatic views will be your back. You’ll be showing it off once you pass down the aisle, the whole time you take vows, and come reception time.
